Volunteer town board positions increasingly difficult to fill

The town of Brattleboro can probably get by without a weigher of coal for a while, but members of the Planning Commission and Development Review Board are another matter.

Like many Vermont towns, Brattleboro is having trouble filling some of the volunteer positions on town boards. Only 12 people have applied for 31 positions advertised recently by the Select Board.

Town Manager Jerry Remillard says the time commitment required for the positions is one of the reasons many people are slow to step forward.

He says he expects Brattleboro will fill most of the jobs eventually, and that the town will re-advertise the open positions.
