(Host) There’s recognition for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s commitment to works by contemporary composers.

The VSO received a second-place "Award for Adventurous Programming" today from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

VSO executive director Alan Jordan was in Chicago for the League of American Orchestras Conference, where the awards were presented.

(Alan Jordan) "This was our 74th anniversary season and so for our Master Works series, the subscription series we do at the Flynn, the entire five-concert series was devoted to music that was written during our lifetime. We called it "Music of Our Time," so that was music written from 1935 to the present. Every program included at least one work by a living composer."

(Host) Jordan says audiences told the orchestra they enjoyed the programs. The VSO plans to continue performing contemporary works along with traditional compositions.
