It’s two weeks from the election and there’s one thing missing from Vermont’s race for state auditor: the auditor.
Incumbent Democrat Thomas Salmon is serving in Iraq with the U-S Navy Reserve.
As a serving member of the military, Defense Department rules don’t allow Salmon to campaign.
One potential Republican rival has passed up the race because of Salmon’s service. Progressive Martha Abbott and Liberty Union Candidate Jerry Levy are also in the race.
Salmon’s race is being run by a campaign manager, his wife and his father, former Governor Thomas Salmon.
The auditor was elected two years ago by defeating incumbent Republican Randy Brock in a recount. Brock had considered running again, but chose not to run against Salmon while he was deployed. Brock is making a bid to become a Franklin County senator.
