Hospitals have been dealing with antibiotic-resistant infections for decades, but in recent years the so-called ‘superbugs’ have become increasingly common in local communities as well. Health officials say they can be treated, but they can be troublesome and even fatal if they’re not handled properly. What precautions should Vermonters take to avoid spreading or contracting these infections? Dr. Don Swartz is the Medical Director of the Vermont Department of Health. He speaks with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the treatment and prevention of MRSA and other virulent pathogens.
