Most Americans identify themselves as middle class. But depending on which factors you include, anywhere from 25% to 75% of Americans could be middle class. Elaine McCrate is the UVM Economics Chair. Vince Bolduc is a Sociology Professor at Saint Michael’s College. They spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about how income, education, and family background, help define class today, and whether or not such class distinctions matter in today’s society.
