One of the nation’s best-loved children’s illustrators died last week at the age of 92. Tasha Tudor was known for her delicate images and borders, done in watercolor and pencil, that evoked a rustic 19th century world of mostly *good children. Tudor was unusual in that she also lived the life she drew, dipping candles, spinning flax, raising goats and chickens, and dressing in long skirts and aprons evocative of Vermont in the 1830s.

Her home in Marlboro, hand built by her son Seth, has become a cottage industry, complete with garden tours and a museum run by her family.  Amy Tudor is Tasha Tudor’s Granddaughter-in-law.  She spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the artist.
