VT Edition Interview: Shirley Boyd-Hill on Juneteenth National Freedom Day

Earlier this week, Governor Jim Douglas signed legislation officially designating the third Saturday of June as a state holiday to be known as Juneteenth National Freedom Day. Juneteeth recognizes African-American emancipation from slavery, and Vermont becomes the 29th state to identify the day as a holiday. Shirley Boyd-Hill is the director of the state’s Juneteenth committee, and she attended the governor’s signing. She spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the significance of the day.
