One of the first U.S. patents went to a Vermonter, and today Vermont has more patents issued per capita than anywhere else in the nation. Jackie Calder is with the Vermont Historical Society. Tom Ference is president of InventVermont. Steve Luhr is the man behind Hammerhead sleds. They talk with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about why the state has long been a hotbed for innovation and the long and costly process it takes to become an inventor.
