During the month of September, Vermont lost eight dairy farms, bringing the state’s total number of farms down to 1035.  Then, last week, farmers got word that they would receive one time emergency aid payments of between $5,000 and $25,000.  But many worry that those payments won’t be enough to offset some of the industry’s larger problems and low milk prices.

Roger Allbee is Vermont’s Agriculture Secretary.  Diane Bothfeld is the state’s Dairy Policy Administrator.  They talk with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about  the continuing struggles for dairy farms in our region.
