The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife says more deer in the woods is helping boost the number of bow hunters expected to head out next month.

Commissioner Wayne LaRoche says the number of archery hunters has increased 34 percent in the last three years.

The state says the increased hunter interest is due to regulations designed to produce larger deer and favorable winter conditions in parts of Vermont.

Last year the state brought back the three deer limit in a combination of archery, youth weekend, November rifle season and the December muzzleloader season.

Vermont’s first archery seasons opens Oct. 3 and runs through Oct. 25.
