A Vermont lawmaker who lobbied for the state to toughen laws against drunken driving has pleaded guilty himself to the crime.
Representative Peter Perley had a blood alcohol content measured at nearly twice the legal limit when he was tested after a traffic stop March 15th. He pleaded guilty to the charge April 5 in Vermont District Court in St. Albans.
Sheriff’s deputies say the Enosburg Falls Republican was arrested after a clerk at a convenience store called to report an intoxicated man. Perley tried to pull away as a deputy attempted to handcuff him.
