Vt. likely to join suit against EPA over emissions

Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell says the state is very likely to join California in suing the federal Environmental Protection Agency over vehicle emission standards.

California is expected very soon to file suit over the EPA’s refusal to grant it the special waiver it needs to put in place new emission rules designed to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide coming from the tailpipes of cars and light trucks.

Vermont and about a dozen other states have adopted the California rules, and Vermont recently successfully defended them in federal court against a suit brought by the auto industry, which was seeking to block the rules from taking effect.
