The Peace Corps says Vermont and Maine were among the nation’s top volunteer-producing states per capita in 2009.
Vermont is ranked number 1 on a per-capita basis with 60 Peace Corps volunteers.
Maine is ranked third with 75 active volunteers calling the state home.
Among metropolitan areas, the Burlington-South Burlington area is ranked 7th for the rate of volunteers per capita.
Since 1961, Vermont has turned out over 1,300 volunteers for the organization, which serves in 139 countries.
