Vt., Quebec To Work Together On Many Issues

Governor Peter Shumlin says Quebec Premier Pauline Marois is committed to improving the rail connections between Montreal and New York, including the line through the Green Mountain State.

Shumlin says the rails to New York through Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut are being upgraded.

One of the biggest issues, however, is the pre-clearance of passengers and cargo when crossing the border.

Shumlin made the comments yesterday after meeting with Marois in Montreal where they signed a cooperation agreement.

The 15-point agreement didn’t commit Vermont or Quebec to any specific actions.

Shumlin says Marois also talked about improving the highway from the Vermont border crossing at Highgate Springs to Montreal and efforts, along with the state of New York, to clean up Lake Champlain.
