The Vermont attorney general’s office says it has reached an agreement with two Canadian businessmen over their billing practices.

The state says John Bucci and Jeremie Arrobas ran an online advertising company that their customers said billed them without authorization, the company used a Vermont address despite being located in Canada and failed to comply with Vermont’s cancellation requirements for telephone sales.

Bucci, of Pierrefonds, Quebec, and Arrobas, of Montreal, each agreed to pay $20,000 in civil penalties and costs to the state of Vermont.

The state says two-thirds of the businesses that dealt with the two men said they did not agree to buy their services.

One of the businesses also used a Derby Line address on its invoices when it wasn’t located in Vermont.
