Vermont State Police say a New York hiker missing on the Long Trail has been found dead.
Police say a search team found the body of 41-year-old Billy Joe Thomas, of Niverville, N.Y., Thursday at the Melville Shelter on the Long Trail.
An initial investigation could not determine a cause of death. An autopsy has been ordered.
Thomas went hiking on Saturday in Woodford. His family called police on Wednesday when he did not show up for work on Tuesday.
