Employees of the state of Vermont and others say a lack of parking is a big problem in Montpelier that reduces productivity and makes the city less friendly to visitors.
The Vermont State Employees Association sponsored a meeting at the Statehouse Tuesday where state workers and others told of how difficult it can be to find a place to park.
VSEA President John Reese says the lack of adequate parking in Montpelier affects state employees’ ability to deliver services to Vermonters.
One person estimated that during the legislative session there is a shortage of more than 600 parking spaces.
Vermont Buildings Commissioner Michael Obuchowski says there is no quick fix. He says construction of a new parking garage should be a last resort.
