Governor Peter Shumlin says cellular telephone users in parts of rural Caledonia and Orange counties will soon see better service. That’s thanks to a $2 million grant from the Federal Communications Commission.
The telecommunications company VTel was among the winners of what the FCC calls its first mobility fund auction.
VTel will use the money to expand wireless coverage along over 940 miles of Vermont roadways, primarily in Orange and Caledonia counties.
The Springfield-based telecommunications provider must complete its project within three years and make the network available to other providers for roaming, so that as many consumers as possible can benefit from the new networks.
