An attorney from Newfane who helped investigate the assassination of President Kennedy is dead. Friends say 71-year-old Wesley Liebeler was the second person killed in a plane crash yesterday in New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee.

Liebeler was a professor at George Mason University in Virginia, where he was considered one of the world’s leading authorities on anti-trust law. In the 1960s, Liebeler was a staff attorney for the Warren Commission, the group that investigated the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy.

Liebeler was flying yesterday with Alan Emerson of Emerson Aviation when their plane crashed in New Hampshire. Liebeler’s Friend Eleanor Silliman in Newfane, says Liebeler was a licensed pilot who was getting instruction from Emerson on flying twin-engine planes. It is not known which pilot was at the controls.
