The fire department in Washington Vermont is getting some help from the federal government.

The Washington Fire Department has won a 76-thousand dollar grant that’s part of millions that will be given out this year to fire departments by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The grants help local fire departments pay for training, conduct health-and-safety programs and buy equipment.

Since 2001, FEMA has doled out more than $3 billion in funding, more than $900,000 of it to Vermont.
