The recession has hit the airwaves. WCAX-TV has laid off five employees, including some on-air staff.

Representatives of the CBS-affiliated station say the layoffs were driven by a drop in advertising revenues.

The station’s news director and evening news anchor, Marselis Parsons says the company laid off three employees on Monday and two on Tuesday.

The names of the employees were not released but Parsons says some of the changes will be obvious to viewers.

He says layoffs at the family owned station, which began broadcasting more than 50 years ago, are nearly unheard of.
