Weather conditions will determine when the Vermont State Police resumes the Lake Champlain search for a man missing since his canoe capsized in a storm near Highgate Springs.

Police say what had been a search for 21-year-old Phillip Patch of Swanton is now a recovery operation.

Police say yesterday’s search for Patch by state police divers was hampered by low visibility in the water caused by runoff from Tuesday’s powerful thunderstorms.

Patch and 21-year-old Thomas Lapine were canoeing off Old Dock Road when their boat capsized in high waves.

Police say Lapine was picked up by boaters who had seen the canoe tip over.

Police say neither man was wearing a life jacket.
