A computer security organization is warning about a potential wave of Web site hacking this weekend. “Vermont Infragard” – a network of law enforcement and computer professionals – says systems administrators across the state should take extra precautions to secure Web sites over the holiday weekend. The organization warns of a competition among computer hackers to inflict the most damage to Web sites worldwide on July 6.
Systems administrators have been advised to double check their Web server security systems. Computers users are also encouraged to be on the lookout for attempts to get passwords and other information. Some techniques include fake phone calls or e-mails from computer help desks that ask for sensitive information.
