Rep. Peter Welch says the private military security firm Blackwater USA should leave Iraq immediately.
Welch says Blackwater undermines the credibility of U.S. soldiers and does so without any oversight or accountability.
Welch is a member of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, which grilled Blackwater CEO Erik Prince earlier this month. Those hearings were called in response to allegations that Blackwater employees improperly fired into a crowd of Iraqi civilians in September.
He’s sponsoring legislation to bring the company under more congressional oversight.
