Congressman Peter Welch is co-sponsoring legislation to overturn a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency that denies California permission to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks.

The EPA waiver denial also blocked Vermont and at least 15 other states from adopt the California rules.

The bill may face an uphill battle because it must go through a committee chaired by Michigan Democrat John Dingell. He’s considered an ally of the auto industry.

A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate by Barbara Boxer of California.
