A food warehousing and trucking firm has agreed to pay a $215,000 fine to the state of Vermont for violating its hazardous waste management and underground storage tank laws.

C&S Wholesale Grocers, headquartered in Keene, N.H., and formerly in Brattleboro, was fined following an investigation in December of 2007 and January of 2008 at a facility it still maintains in Brattleboro.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources found that the company did not properly label and store hazardous wastes, creating a risk of worker exposure and releases to the environment. The company also was cited for inadequate oil spill prevention.

The company was cited for 39 violations in all. A spokesman says C&S has taken corrective actions.
