Williston Explores Solar Options

Officials in Williston say a proposed solar panel project could save the town up to $200,000 over the next 20 years, and even more if energy rates continue to increase.

Williston’s Select Board is exploring a number of solar options.

If approved, the plan is to place the panels on town-owned or town-controlled property.

Green Mountain Power says it would give the town a 20-cent per-kilowatt-hour credit for the power generated by the panels.

And town officials estimate Williston would break even five years after installation.

Town Manager Richard McGuire says money has already been placed in the town’s current budget to cover a down payment on a new solar system.
