Voters in Wilmington and Whitingham have approved a school merger plan.

It was a close vote in both towns Tuesday. The measure won by 15 votes in Wilmington and by 41 votes in Whitingham.

The plan calls for three schools to become two. The Twin Valley High School building would close. Students would be consolidated at the middle school in Whitingham and the Deerfield Valley Elementary School in Wilmington.

Discussions about what to do with the schools had been ongoing for years.
