Most Windsor County police chiefs say they’ll continue taking marijuana cases to the local state’s attorney for prosecution.
Some had considered taking the cases to the attorney general, instead, as Governor Jim Douglas has ordered state police to do.
Windsor County State’s Attorney Robert Sand has advocated decriminalizing possession of some drugs.
He was criticized when he recommended court diversion for a Windsor lawyer who was charged with felony marijuana possession.
Windsor County police chiefs met with Sand yesterday to talk about their concerns. Most say they’re satisfied, although the Springfield chief says he hasn’t decided whether he’ll continue to refer cases to Sand’s office.
