Winhall town officials urge voters to buy church

The Winhall Select Board is recommending that voters protect a local church by buying it.

The United Methodist Church is selling the building because it is no longer being used.

The building, which is at least 150 years old, sits on Vermont Route 30 on the approach to Stratton Mountain Resort.

Town officials say they fear if the building were purchased by a private developer it might be demolished.

Town leaders may make a formal offer for the building and then ask voters to approve the purchase.
