Winter Storm Begins Dropping Snow Across Region

A winter storm that raged through the South and Midwest began dumping snow overnight in New England.

By sunrise, 3 to 8 inches had fallen across Vermont – with plenty more on the way.

The National Weather Service says there could be as much as two feet in the northern mountains and more than 10 inches nearly everywhere.

The snow left roads throughout the region slippery and hazardous.

The Vermont Transportation Agency’s continuously updated traffic map showed that roads throughout the state were slow.

But state police had not reported any serious mishaps by early morning.

Forecasters say there will be periods of sleet, freezing rain and rain in southern Vermont during part of the day.

Most schools are on their holiday break, so there aren’t any closings to report.
