A 37-year-old Wolcott man has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for stealing nearly $14,000 worth of copper wire from transformers at a mine.
Raymond Earle was sentenced this week in Orleans Superior Court in Newport after pleading guilty to felony possession of stolen property.
The Caledonian-Record reported that Earle stole copper on several occasions from the Lowell Asbestos Mine and sold it to a metals company in Hardwick.
Earle is facing additional charges for aiding in the commission of a felony, felony eluding and felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer for his role in a high-speed chase in northern Vermont last month.
The driver of the vehicle, Shane Phillips of Johnson, remains at large after fleeing on foot following the vehicle chase.
