A 45-year-old Calais woman could face 15 years in prison if convicted on a charge of neglecting a vulnerable adult who died while under her care.

Julie Davis was arraigned on the charge on Thursday in Barre as relatives of the dead woman – 47-year-old Jean Lemire – watched and listened.

Davis was a paid caretaker working under the auspices of Lincoln Street Inc., based in Springfield. Lemire lived and was supervised in Davis’ home.

Davis was released on conditions pending resolution of the case.

Authorities say one lapse in care was Davis’ alleged failure to get needed medical care for Lemire, who suffered from a personality disorder and anorexia.
