Woodbury College to take mediation training to China

Woodbury College in Montpelier will develop mediation training for judges and lawyers in China and exchange programs and joint degrees with a Beijing university.

The venture grew out of an invitation by Beijing’s China University of Politics and Law to the small college, which says it offers the only regionally accredited graduate degree program in mediation in the country.

Next spring, Woodbury staff will train 40 legal professionals at Beijing’s Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims.

Woodbury officials say the mission is to help resolve disputes in a country whose court system is relatively new _ just 25 years old _ and where cases don’t always get heard and judges are often young and inexperienced.
