Unionized workers at the Velan Valve Corporation plant in Williston are on strike against their employer because of a dispute over health insurance and pension benefits.
The 120 workers walked off the job after their three-year contract expired at midnight Sunday.
Union President Mark Nadeau says the union’s primary concern are health insurance costs, which would rise 28 percent under the contract offered by the company.
Nadeau says the 3 percent raises offered over the life of the contract wouldn’t cover the increases.
Velan Valve is a subsidiary of Montreal-based Velan Inc.
Company officials wouldn’t comment.
Velan Valve makes industrial steel valves.
