Hundreds of contract workers for the Agency of Citizenship and Immigration Services in Vermont and California struggling to alleviate a backlog of millions of immigration applications are facing pay cuts.

On Monday, Stanley Inc., of Arlington, Virginia, will take over the job of opening the mail and the initial processing of the citizenship and other applications at Citizenship and Immigration centers in St. Albans and Laguna Niguel, California.

Stanley is planning to use a different job classification system that will result in some employees in St. Albans being paid less.

The new contract comes at a time when Citizenship and Immigration Services officials are trying to work their way out from under an unexpected surge in applications.
