World Cup attracts enthusiastic crowd in Burlington

The final round of group play in the World Cup wraps up later today, setting the stage for the 16 nations left standing to play winner-take-all elimination matches in hopes of capturing soccer’s greatest prize. The United States will not get that chance this year. They were eliminated with a 2-1 loss to Ghana yesterday.

The conventional wisdom is that Americans won’t lose much sleep over that result. But as Mitch Wertlieb found out as he made his way through a crowd of some 60 people at the Euro Gourmet Market and Cafe in Burlington, the passion for soccer was palpable.
